Lockdown Postcards
Personal Project
Shut up in a maisonette in East London estate on lockdown I’ve been badly missing seeing friends and family. Technology has been amazing but a zoom call can’t replace having my best friend veg on the sofa with me, hugging my niece or sharing a meal with my mum.
Never had the sentiment ‘wish you were here’ seemed more fitting, so I thought I’d send them all a postcard. Inspired by Martin Parr’s Boring Postcards I walked around my estate and snapped some of its highlights*.
I had great fun emulating the old fashioned designs - there is nothing better than a bit of brush script font or some over-saturated retro colours. It's important to keep in touch with them all in these difficult times and it was nice to raise a smile at the same time.
*It is actually a brilliant place to live with a wonderful community spirit which was much felt before the pandemic but is currently in full swing now. That said, there’s a lot of crap left lying around.
